Laparoscopic General Surgeries

  • Adhesiolysis - Adhesions are strands of tissues that form in the body in response to injury. Abdominal cavity is the commonest site. Adhesiolysis is a type of laparoscopic operation for this condition. It is a surgical operation in which inside of the abdomen is examined by means of Laparoscope by 2 tiny holes on abdomen wall. In other words there is no other test or investigation to diagnose adhesions. If the adhesions are present they are divided using laproscopic instrument and patient recovers faster.
  • Appendicitis - It is an infection of appendix. Appendix is a thin tubular structure at the junction of small intestine & large intestine. Its length varies from 2 cm to 10 cm. The appendix commonly gets infected when its lumen is blocked. This causes its swelling & inflammation. An inflamed appendix may burst inside the abdomen. Appendix may get infected on & off and produces pain in right lower abdomen. The appendectomy is the operation suggested for this. It is performed by 3 small cuts through laparoscope. The appendix is separated, cut & removed via port.
  • Cholecystectomy - Laparoscopy is a golden surgery for the Cholecystectomy. In this the surgeon uses a video camera and then tubes are inserted into small cuts on the body to repair or remove tissue.
  • Hernia - Laparoscopic hernia repair is similar to other laparoscopic procedures. A thin, lighted scope called a laparoscope is inserted through the incision. The instruments to repair the hernia are inserted through other small incisions in the lower abdomen; Mesh is then placed over the defect to reinforce the belly wall.
  • Meckel's Diverticulitis, Intestinal Obstruction, Peritonitis, and Colostomy - Laparoscopic surgery allows surgeons to perform many common colon procedures through small incision. Depending on the type of procedure, patients may leave the hospital in a few days and return to normal activities more quickly than patients recovering from open surgery.
